On my way home yesterday I opened the London Evening Standard to see a picture of a colleague Andy Puddicombe and an article about mindfulness. I met Andy through a mutual colleague last year and have been interested in his journey and his desire to make mindfulness practice accessible since that meeting. It’s great to see that he is getting his message across through his slot on the Chris Evans radio show and other media.

His ‘10 minutes a day’ message is such a good tool for past and present participants of fitforlife.tel, really helping to break the cycle of stress by regularly checking in, relaxing and simply being aware of the present moment. During the fitforlife.tel programme we come back to ‘being present’ frequently and draw on many tools for this. One of my favorite is the ‘eating meditation’ bringing awareness to the senses and a different quality to the everyday activity of eating. Slowing down and becoming present opens the senses and experience in a truly wonderful way.
You can try this while drinking a cup of tea, or eating an orange, just something very simple and ordinary. These days for most of us eating is an activity that we do alongside other things such as reading e mails, surfing the net, watching tv or texting.

Just stopping for those 10 minutes, breathing and becoming present can create an oasis in the day that is truly refreshing. So thank you Andy, I need as many reminders to stop as I can get and in all sorts of ways.
